Cinematic Way of Life

A friend once told me this: “Don’t think of how things may have been because that was then and this is now, and there’s no way to know how things may have been”.

This didn’t make sense to me at first but recently, I have recalled how things work way back before I was awakened to the truth of the world. Before acquiring a degree in international studies, I’ve always blamed industrialization as the root of all evil and destruction. But now I know that inequality is rather, the cause of humans themselves.

Before I was dipped in the open waters called “life” we had all the luxuries I could ask for. I didn’t have to worry about how to survive every single day of my school days because life back then was dictated to me like a box office movie. Back then we were granted privileges and immunities that were only given to those selected lucky fellas. Back then, the world was almost perfect for a little girl named Bella.

However, because of the rapid speed of globalisation, the hit movie that was played years ago has now been rewritten to depict the so-called “reality of life”. Today, each day is a mysterious battle to conquer physically, mentally and emotionally. The mind never stops thinking of tasks, errands, problems-even love is a concern nowadays. So sometimes, I just can’t help thinking of how it might have been in the past if I was living the same way as I am living right now. Maybe there is really no way to tell.
