“The most important thing that parents can teach their children is how to get along without them”. — Frank Clark

I am disgusted with youths who depend too much on their parents. Young people who do not know how to live each day without consulting their elders. These past few weeks have ultimately worn me out due to stubborn people who just can’t organize themselves without having to depend on others.

One particular weekend, my patience was tested when I went to my hometown and saw mess in every corner of the house. It was even more infuriating when I went back to the city and got welcomed with a pile of dirty dishes and stinky laundry all over the place.

Everyone is busy ‘problematizing’ worldly concerns, parents forget that the cause of these worldly issues comes from their way of raising their children. Good citizens were brought up by good parents, those who know how to train young people to be independent and organized. Young people nowadays cannot go on their daily lives without asking their parents to decide or to act for them. While parents are stuck  with the thought of “baby-ing” their children.

I am lucky enough to have been taught to act on my own, to work hard to get to the top, and to live each day on my own as if I cannot depend on anyone. Courage comes from deciding for oneself not from asking others.

And so my message for both parents and young people is this: Parents- be realistic, teach your kids to live on their own, to decide for themselves and to have some sense of responsibility. Youth- you aren’t going to be kids forever, let go of that stubbornness and act on your own, parents aren’t going to be there for you always so do well and stop being dependent every single day (it’s okay to seek for help and advise, but to let others decide for you that’s crap).

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
